COP31 to be held in Antalya on 9-20 November 2026, hosted by Türkiye

The UN Climate Conference COP31 will meet in Antalya on 9-20 November 2026 under Türkiye's hosting and Presidency, with the negotiations presidency held by Australia.

    What happened

By a decision taken at COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, and concluded on 22 November 2025, Türkiye was accepted as host of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) and the accompanying CMP21 and CMA8 sessions.

    According to the COP30 decision:

    • The sessions will take place from Monday 9 November to Friday 20 November 2026.
    • The arrangement between the governments of Türkiye and Australia was welcomed, with the endorsement of the Western European and Other States group.
    • The Pre-COP, a preparatory meeting, will be held in a Pacific island country.

According to statements by the Climate Change Presidency and the Ministry, Türkiye is both host and President of the conference, while Australia leads the negotiations. Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, was appointed COP31 President by Presidential Circular. The main events will be held at the EXPO site in Antalya.

    Who is affected

COP31 puts Türkiye's climate policy at the centre of the international agenda. As host country, Türkiye's 2035 target, the pilot period of the national ETS and its carbon credit regulations will gain more visibility during the summit process. The Article 6 carbon market rules under the Paris Agreement, prominent in the negotiations, directly concern companies developing projects and buying credits in Türkiye. Investors, customers and financial institutions can also be expected to take more interest in Turkish companies' climate commitments around the summit.

    What companies should do

    • Make sure your public climate targets and greenhouse gas inventory are up to date and verified; claims are likely to be scrutinised around the summit.
    • Appoint someone to track how COP31 decisions (especially on carbon markets and adaptation finance) affect your company.
    • Compare your net zero commitment with current standards (SBTi V2.0, the ISO 14060 draft).
